A Still - Volcano - Life

Spoleto: fountains, pipes emerging from crumbling walls, the aqueduct, water heard trickling beneath the street while standing on a manhole cover on Via Giustolo. Combining watercolour and gouache with oil pastel and print-making techniques, this work responds to the seepage and flow of water in the city.

Slade MA Degree Show

The Pair in her Face I & II

Duration approx. 8 minutes

During this performance, I dress and undress myself in a full length paper suit which I have monoprinted a naked self-portrait onto. I walk around and hold prolonged eye-contact with various members of the audience. The performance is an exploration of the conventions which exist around looking at paintings of female nudes, as well as a wider exploration of creating connection through vulnerability.

Show in the Attic

‘Show in the Attic’ was a group exhibition which I organised. It took place in my childhood bedroom, a few weeks before it was demolished and renovated. All the work responded to the psychologically loaded space of the attic bedroom  as a site of dreaming and transformation.

TRASH - stage for Bad Art exhibtion and performance night

TRASH was a group show where all the works of art had to be destroyed during the course of the exhibition. I created a painting which acted as the stage for the messy performances which occured during the evening of the show. Only once my painting had absorbed all the trash created by the destruction of the other artworks was it completed and then hoisted up onto the walls of the gallery.

Dirty Kisses

‘Dirty Kisses’ is a 9 metre by 3 metre acrylic, charcoal and coffee painting on newsprint. The painting covered the whole floor of the room, meaning that in order to see the painting, you had to trample across it. The more people looked at the painting, the more it disintegrated as the newsprint surface was ripped and soiled by shoes carrying dirt from the street outside.
