TRASH! was a group show where all the works of art had to be destroyed during the course of the exhibition. I created a painting which acted as the stage for the messy performances which occured during the evening of the show. Only once my painting (Dirty Kisses II) had absorbed all the trash created by the destruction of the other artworks was it completed and then hoisted up onto the walls of the gallery.
Dirty Kisses I was a 9 metre by 3 metre acrylic, charcoal and coffee painting on newsprint. The painting covered the whole floor of the room, meaning that in order to see the painting, you had to trample across it. The more people looked at the painting, the more it disintegrated as the newsprint surface was ripped and soiled by shoes carrying dirt from the street outside.
